Call for Interest: Canada SCORES National Board of Directors
Canada SCORES - A Charitable Society, an affiliate of the SCORES Network across North America (founded as a 1994 FIFA World Cup Legacy Program) is a registered Canadian charity. Our mission is to inspire youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. We envision a world where all youth find their voice, achieve their goals and reach their full potential. We are currently seeking to fill two seats on our National Board of Directors.
In partnership with local school districts and with a focus on schools in underserved communities, our FREE after-school programs for children and youth focus on the development of the whole child. We use a unique combination of soccer, poetry, and community projects to create a singular comprehensive program that emphasizes physical activity, health and wellness, self-expression, academic engagement, and community involvement. Our year-round programming inspires children and youth to lead healthy lives and gain the confidence to make changes in their communities.
Canada SCORES is dedicated to fostering inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility in all that we do. In selecting Directors for the Board, we strive to balance skills and expertise with representation across age, ability, racial and cultural background, Indigeneity and within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We also value diverse lived experience in relation to our programs.
In keeping with these commitments, we’re prioritizing applications from women who bring considerable experience and capacity to govern and support Canada SCORES, specifically in areas of:
● fundraising and diversified revenue generation; and
● legal practice.
The current volunteer Board includes Directors from British Columbia and Ontario and reflects the current geographic focus of our existing programs. Our preference is to welcome applicants from BC and Ontario; however, candidates will be considered from across Canada.

The role of a Canada SCORES Board member is to act in good faith and with integrity and an open mind towards the best interests of the organization. The Board is responsible for upholding our bylaws, determining policy, developing and evaluating strategic priorities, and supporting fundraising initiatives to achieve approved annual budgets.
Virtual Board meetings are hosted quarterly, while Board committee and work group meetings are held in varied frequency as required.
