Niko’s Journey – Building Creativity and Confidence
Across our communities, too many young people face barriers that limit opportunity - financial strain, a lack of safe after-school spaces, and few chances to discover who they are and who they can become. For children in under-represented communities, these challenges can shape their future long before they have a chance to shape it themselves.

Niko joined Canada SCORES in Grade 4 after her school recognized she needed a space to connect, belong, and build confidence. Naturally creative, she found her voice through poetry. Soccer was new—and intimidating—but with patient coaches and a supportive team, she discovered confidence on the field as well.
Today, Niko is thriving. Now in middle school, she participates in SCORES in Action, building a social business that gives back to her community. She has also joined a local soccer club - an opportunity she never imagined for herself just a few years ago.
Niko’s journey shows what’s possible when young people are given access to safe spaces, caring mentors, and opportunities to grow. Because of donors like you, barriers become breakthroughs—and potential becomes purpose.
