Why Are We Needed?

In communities throughout the Lower Mainland, children face a range of issues that may prevent them from achieving their goals. These are outlined below.

We aim to provide positive support for these children to help them tackle these issues and help them reach their full potential.

Poverty

One in five children in British Columbia live in poverty - the highest in Canada.

Literacy

20% of all children in BC are falling below the expected level for reading at Grade 7.
This rises to almost 40% for First Nation children

Health

More than half of Canadian children and youth are not active enough for optimal growth and development.


Only 9% of Canadian kids aged 5 to 17 get the 60 minutes of activity they need each day.

On weekdays youth crime peaks (20%) in the late afternoon between the end of the school day and supper-time
